Samsung’s smart-home rival, SwitchBot, has launched a new Weather Station. It combines weather forecasts, environmental monitoring and family calendar features into a single E Ink display.
At first glance, it looks more like a digital noticeboard than a traditional weather station. The 7.5-inch E Ink screen can show indoor and outdoor temperature readings, humidity levels, air quality information, sunrise and sunset times, and a five-day weather forecast.
Because it uses E Ink rather than a conventional LCD panel, the screen remains visible throughout the day. This happens without the constant glow of smart displays, though there is a built-in front light for nighttime viewing.
However, weather information is only part of the story.
SwitchBot is positioning the device as a central household dashboard. It offers support for one-way calendar syncing from Google Calendar, iCloud and Outlook. Users can connect up to five calendars and display daily schedules directly on the screen, potentially reducing the need to constantly check their phones for appointments, school events, or reminders.
The Weather Station also ties into the wider SwitchBot ecosystem. It can connect to up to three compatible environmental sensors, allowing users to monitor conditions in different parts of the home, such as nurseries, greenhouses, garages or pet rooms. Historical data is stored in the SwitchBot app, while users with a SwitchBot Hub can receive alerts when temperature or humidity levels move outside predefined limits.
To make the display more flexible, SwitchBot has included six viewing modes. Alongside dedicated weather and calendar layouts, there are themes for countdown timers, environmental data, daily messages and custom text displays. This lets users tailor the screen to their own priorities.
Smart home control is also built in. Two programmable scene buttons can trigger routines through the SwitchBot app. This allows users to perform actions such as turning on lights, closing curtains or activating pre-configured home and away modes with a single press.
Battery life looks particularly impressive on paper. SwitchBot claims the built-in 5,000mAh battery can last up to a year between charges under typical usage conditions. It also supports USB-C power for permanent placement.
Priced at £109.99 in the UK, the SwitchBot Weather Station sits somewhere between a smart display and a dedicated weather monitor. Rather than trying to replace a tablet or smart speaker, it appears to focus on surfacing the information people check most often.
