In case you thought that Focal’s Diva range of active speakers couldn’t get any more expensive, Focal would like to tell you that they absolutely can with the announcement of its new flagship Diva Alta Utopia wireless speaker.
Like the previous Utopia speakers, the Diva Alta Utopia brings brings the acoustic expertise of Focal and Naim (now owned by Belgium home theatre company Barco), for their most premium and advanced active speaker yet.
Features-wise, the Diva Alta Utopia supports the usual coterie of streaming options and services, with Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect, AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Bluetooth 5.3 and UPnP. There’s also HDMI eARC for connecting the speaker straight to a TV via a HDMI cable, with this new Utopia able to pull double duty for film and TV.

There’s 600W of “Naim-developed” Class AB amplification in each speaker, which is distributed across four dedicated amplifier channels. Focal says that this set-up eliminates the need to have multiple external components “without compromising audiophile-grade sound”.
An Ultra Wideband (UWB) connection between the speakers is claimed to enabled lossless audio playback, with support for 24-bit/192kHz in a wire-free set-up.
If you feel the 24-bit/192kHz playback was a little on the low side in light of the Diva Utopia being able to process audio up to 32-bit/384kHz, the have no fear as the Diva Alta Utopia is capable of the same.
Focal, who manufactures the Utopia in France, also wants to place an emphasis on the design, which is similar to previous Diva speakers with is “sculptural proportions, floating side panels” and choice of premium felt or hand-finished lacquered finishes.
In fact, the type of finish you go for will impact the final price. The felt finish of the Focal Diva Alta Utopia costs €190,000 / $199,999 / £165,000. If you opt for the high gloss finishes instead, that’ll bump the asking price to €199,990 / $210,000 / £175,000.
