The Insta360 X6 may have leaked ahead of launch, and it looks like the company is making one of its biggest design changes yet.
According to details spotted by WinFuture, the Insta360 X6 has been redesigned with a much shorter body that brings it closer in size to a traditional action camera despite retaining its dual-camera setup for 360-degree capture. It still features a lens on both the front and back, alongside a compact touchscreen for navigating settings and footage.
The smaller design doesn’t appear to come at the expense of features. In fact, the biggest upgrade could be video performance. While the Insta360 X5 topped out at 8K recording at 30fps, the leaked X6 is said to support 8K at up to 50fps. This opens the door to smoother footage. Additionally, slow-motion playback is possible without dropping below 4K resolution.
Beyond that, the leak is light on technical details. There’s no word yet on whether Insta360 has improved image quality, battery life or its lower-resolution recording modes. Although those would be logical upgrades for a new flagship.
The leaked images do reveal a few hardware details. However, the X6 appears to feature a shutter button and power button on one side. Additionally, there are microphone openings around the body for improved audio capture. There is also a built-in tripod mount on the bottom and a small LED indicator that lights up while recording.
The redesign could come with a higher asking price, though. The retailer listing points to a €689 starting price for the camera on its own. This is up from the €589 launch price of the Insta360 X5. An Essentials Bundle is also expected, reportedly costing €789.
Insta360 hasn’t officially announced the X6, so these details should still be treated with some caution. However, products rarely appear at retailers this close to launch by accident, suggesting an official reveal may not be far away.
If the leak proves accurate, the Insta360 X6 looks set to offer more than just an annual refresh.
