OnePlus quits US and Europe, takes OxygenOS with it

OnePlus has officially confirmed that it is leaving both the US and European smartphone markets, bringing an end to more than a decade of selling devices. While existing customers won’t lose support overnight, the company says it won’t launch any new products in either region going forward.

The announcement comes after months of speculation surrounding OnePlus’ future. Parent company Oppo has confirmed that software updates, warranty support and after-sales service will continue for current users.

Perhaps the biggest change is that existing OnePlus devices will gradually move away from OxygenOS, the company’s long-standing Android skin, and transition to Oppo’s ColorOS in the coming months. Oppo says users who prefer OxygenOS will be able to roll back, though doing so will likely mean missing future software updates.

Moreover, Oppo’s senior PR manager for Europe, James Paterson, said the company will continue to honour existing support agreements in both regions. However, Oppo stopped short of explaining exactly how warranty claims will be handled in the US, where it has no local presence.

While OnePlus is disappearing from the US and Europe, Oppo will continue operating across European markets under its own brand. This means that customers there will still be able to buy Oppo smartphones and accessories.

The long-term future of the OnePlus brand remains less certain. Bloomberg recently reported that the company could eventually withdraw from every market outside China, including India, one of its biggest markets right now.

Oppo declined to confirm those reports, saying only that OnePlus’ product roadmap in China “remains unchanged.”

The restructuring extends beyond OnePlus. Oppo has also confirmed that its sister brand, Realme, will stop launching new products in China. Instead, Realme will focus on overseas markets, signalling a broader reshaping of the company’s global smartphone strategy.

The news also casts doubt over the international launch of the upcoming OnePlus 16. The handset is still expected to debut in China, but it’s now unclear whether it will ever reach markets outside the country.

For existing OnePlus owners, there’s no immediate need to worry. Software updates and support will continue for now, even if they’ll eventually arrive under Oppo’s ColorOS banner. However, for prospective buyers in the US and Europe, the OnePlus era has effectively come to an end.
