TP-Link has unveiled what it calls the world’s first Wi-Fi 8 lineup, with the Archer 8 Ultra router and Deco 8 Ultra mesh system leading the charge.
Both are designed to improve reliability as much as raw speed, with TP-Link’s new StabilityEngine technology targeting weak coverage, network congestion and interference.
The new routers were announced at IFA 2026, but TP-Link isn’t revealing the full details just yet. The company has scheduled a global online launch for 30 September, when it will provide more information on the Archer 8 Ultra and Deco 8 Ultra, as well as regional availability.
Wi-Fi 8 is based on the upcoming IEEE 802.11bn standard and is being positioned as more than another jump in headline speeds. TP-Link says the technology is designed to address some of the everyday problems that can make home networks frustrating, particularly when lots of devices are connected or when a device is further away from the router.
Its StabilityEngine combines several technologies to achieve this. Enhanced Long Range (ELR) and Distributed Resource Units (DRU) are designed to improve coverage at the edges of a home and uplink performance for distant, low-power devices. Non-Primary Channel Access (NPCA) is intended to keep networks responsive when more devices are competing for bandwidth, while Unequal Modulation (UEQM) and new Modulation and Coding Schemes (MCS) aim to maintain more consistent throughput in areas with interference.
The Archer 8 Ultra is the more conventional of the two, although its specifications are anything but. It’s a tri-band Wi-Fi 8 router with up to 19Gbps of combined wireless speeds, 10Gbps wired connectivity and 18 internal antennas.
The Deco 8 Ultra takes the mesh approach, offering up to 22Gbps of combined wireless speeds and 10Gbps wired connectivity. A three-pack is rated to cover up to 9,800 square feet and support more than 200 connected devices.
TP-Link has also given both models a more polished look, with the Archer 8 Ultra featuring a dual-tone grille and soft status lighting, while the Deco 8 Ultra uses a compact design with organic edges and a mix of matte and glossy finishes.
The Archer 8 Ultra BN19000 will be available to pre-order from TP-Link’s store on 30 September. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet.
