Birdfy is bringing its backyard birdwatching experience to the big screen, with its new app now available on Roku OS-powered TVs and streaming devices.
The Birdfy App works on devices running Roku OS 15.1 or later, letting users watch live footage from their Birdfy cameras on a TV rather than having to reach for their phone. You can also replay clips captured by Birdfy devices, turning the TV into something of a very niche nature channel.
The app is designed for sharing, too. Birdfy says users can watch bird footage with family and friends on a larger display, while its sharing feature lets people send videos to loved ones who aren’t nearby. A cast code generated by the Birdfy App can be used to stream a shared video directly to a Roku-powered TV.
That could be particularly handy if you’ve got a Birdfy camera pointed at a busy feeder. The company’s devices use motion-triggered cameras alongside Birdfy AI, which it says can identify 99% of backyard bird species. Saved photos and videos can also be searched for specific species, so you can find that one particularly interesting visitor without scrolling through everything you’ve recorded.
The Roku launch also opens up access to Birdfy’s wider collection of bird videos. The company says its community now has more than 2.4 million active app users, contributing footage of birds spotted in backyards around the world.
The app is available through the Roku Channel Store and works across Roku OS-powered TVs and other Roku streaming devices, including those made by other household-name brands.
Birdfy says Roku is the first TV platform to get its companion app. Roku has also surpassed 100 million streaming households worldwide, according to the company, giving Birdfy a considerably bigger screen for its feathered stars.
So, if your idea of relaxing after work is watching a bird eat seed in glorious detail rather than another Netflix series, your TV can now handle that too.
