Fitbit Edge leak reveals Google’s next tracker is very different to the Air

Google’s next Fitbit tracker could be a bigger step up from the usual fitness band, with leaked retail listings pointing to apps, notifications and up to seven days of battery life.

The wearable, reportedly called the Fitbit Edge, has now appeared in retail assets shared by Android Headlines, following an accidental marketing leak in August and an FCC listing last month.

Google hasn’t officially announced it yet, but the latest leak gives us a much better idea of what the tracker could look like and what it can do.

The Edge appears to have a bulbous display that stretches much closer to the edges than previous Fitbit trackers. The interface shown in the leaked images looks a little like a Pixel Watch face adapted to the tracker’s unusual shape, with the time and date alongside complications for heart rate, step count and starting a workout.

Its design also seems to borrow heavily from the Fitbit Charge 6. Metal strips on the left and right sides are presumably there for ECG readings, while the rear houses the band-release mechanism and a sensor array that looks similar to the Fitbit Air. The leak even suggests Google could use the same magnetic charging system.

The straps and casings shown in the leak come in Canyon, Obsidian and Olive, matching colours used for the Pixel 11 Pro range. There’s no Wi-Fi listed in the leaked specifications, but Bluetooth connectivity is included, along with support for both Android and iOS.

The more interesting change is what the Edge can actually do. A leaked comparison table lists Google Maps, media and music controls, and Find My Phone under “Apps”. Notifications are also listed, something the Fitbit Air apparently lacks.

Battery life is rated at up to seven days, which would keep the Edge firmly in fitness-tracker territory rather than pushing it into Pixel Watch territory.

There’s still plenty we don’t know, including pricing, a release date and the full specification. But if these retail listings are accurate, the Fitbit Edge looks like Google is giving its tracker range a more capable, smartwatch-like experience without giving up the long battery life that makes a fitness band appealing.
