The touchscreen MacBook may finally be getting real, with Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman claiming Apple is preparing to launch new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with OLED touchscreens as soon as next month.
Touchscreen Macs have been rumoured for years, but Gurman’s latest report gives the long-awaited feature a more specific timeframe. Both sizes are expected to get OLED panels, although Apple has yet to officially confirm either laptop.
The new MacBook Pros are also expected to be significantly lighter than the current models. Apple has reportedly achieved this by changing the internal component structure. However, there’s no word yet on exactly how much weight the redesigned machines will shed.
Under the hood, the laptops are expected to use Apple’s M6 chip. Apple is reportedly testing the new models with macOS 27.2. Beyond the move to OLED and the addition of touch support, the report offers few details on what else will change.
That said, the OLED upgrade is likely to be the more interesting part. Apple has stuck with LCD-based displays across its MacBook lineup, so moving the Pro models to OLED would mark a fairly significant display change. Adding touch on top of that would also give the MacBook Pro a capability long missing from Apple’s laptops.
It is also worth noting that Apple isn’t stopping at the MacBook Pro, either. The company is reportedly preparing an OLED version of the iPad mini, too. The small tablet is expected to retain its current 8.3-inch screen size, with no redesign mentioned in the report.
Of course, Gurman’s claim is still a report, not an official announcement, so the timing isn’t guaranteed. However, if Apple sticks to the reported schedule, the touchscreen MacBook’s long stint as one of the company’s most persistent rumours could finally end next month.
