Samsung’s Galaxy S27 Pro might ditch Snapdragon

Samsung could be preparing some bad news for Snapdragon fans, with the Galaxy S27 Pro reportedly set to use Samsung’s own Exynos 2700 chip in some markets.

According to The Elec, the Galaxy S27, Galaxy S27 Plus and Galaxy S27 Pro are all expected to get Exynos 2700 versions in Europe and Korea, while Snapdragon variants would be reserved for China and the US. That means the supposedly more powerful Pro model may not get a Snapdragon processor at all in some regions.

Samsung has reportedly increased Exynos 2700 production by almost 10% compared with its predecessor, with the extra volume apparently linked to the Galaxy S27 Pro adopting the chip. It suggests Samsung is taking its in-house silicon seriously across more of the S27 range, rather than limiting it to the standard models.

The Galaxy S27 Pro is expected to sit between the Plus and Ultra models, making its processor choice particularly interesting. Samsung hasn’t confirmed the phone or its specifications yet, though, so the reported positioning and chipset split should still be treated as early information.

The Galaxy S27 Ultra is a different story. Samsung reportedly hasn’t decided whether its top-end model will also use the Exynos 2700; if it does, it would mark the first Exynos-powered Ultra since the Galaxy S22 Ultra in 2022.

There are apparently already different opinions inside Samsung about that decision. The company’s LSI division, which develops Exynos chips, is reportedly pushing for an Exynos-powered Ultra, while its Mobile Experience (MX) division is considering performance, heat and manufacturing costs before making the call.

That’s where things could get interesting for buyers. The Exynos 2700 will need to compete with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, especially on performance, thermals, and battery life. If Samsung gets that balance right, the switch may not matter much. If it doesn’t, the Galaxy S27 Pro’s more premium name could make the difference harder to ignore.
