Samsung’s One UI isn’t being replaced by Galaxy OS, despite recent rumours

Samsung’s One UI isn’t going anywhere just yet, despite recent rumours suggesting the company could replace its familiar Android interface with something called Galaxy OS.

The speculation began on October 11, when an X user known as phonefuturist claimed Samsung was preparing a major software overhaul with a stronger focus on AI. The post referred to the upcoming interface as Galaxy OS, leading several reports to suggest that Samsung was planning to retire One UI altogether.

However, the original source has since clarified that One UI isn’t being replaced, describing the confusion as a translation error.

That doesn’t necessarily mean Samsung isn’t working on significant software changes. The company has been steadily expanding its AI features across Galaxy devices, and rumours suggest One UI 10 could introduce further improvements. However, there’s currently no official confirmation from Samsung that Galaxy OS exists as a replacement, or that the company intends to abandon the One UI name.

The rumours also come at an interesting time for Samsung’s software. One UI 9 is currently rolling out with improvements aimed at foldable devices and different screen sizes, continuing the company’s efforts to make its interface work consistently across smartphones and tablets.

One UI has been part of Samsung’s ecosystem since 2018, replacing Samsung Experience, which itself followed the older TouchWiz interface. Over the years, it has become a key part of the Galaxy experience, offering extensive customisation, built-in apps and features designed to make larger phones easier to use with one hand.

Replacing One UI would therefore be a bigger decision than simply changing its name. Samsung would be moving away from an established software identity that already covers much of its Galaxy lineup. While a future rebrand isn’t impossible, the original leak doesn’t provide convincing evidence that such a move is happening.

As of now, One UI 10 looks more likely to build on Samsung’s existing software rather than replace it entirely. Galaxy OS may have sparked plenty of discussion, but until Samsung confirms otherwise, there’s little reason to believe One UI is heading for retirement.
