Apple’s updated entry-level iPad won’t arrive with the reported new OLED iPad Mini

Apple’s next entry-level iPad reportedly won’t arrive until early 2027, meaning it will miss the company’s rumoured October launch event, where a new OLED iPad mini is expected to make its debut.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is preparing a second October event, reportedly scheduled for October 27, which could introduce new Macs alongside the long-awaited OLED iPad mini. However, those hoping for an updated version of Apple’s most affordable tablet may have to wait a few more months.

The latest report suggests Apple is holding back several product refreshes until early next year, including the entry-level iPad, iPad Air and iPad Pro. This lines up with Gurman’s earlier reporting in July, which pointed to a first-quarter 2027 launch for the standard iPad, followed by updates to the Air and Pro models in spring.

While the launch is still some way off, previous leaks have already offered a glimpse of what the new entry-level iPad could bring.

Code references spotted in September suggest the tablet will feature Apple’s A19 chip paired with 8GB of RAM, potentially making it the first entry-level iPad to support Apple Intelligence. That would be a notable upgrade for Apple’s budget tablet, bringing its AI features to a more affordable device.

Connectivity could also receive a significant boost. The new model is reportedly getting Apple’s C1X modem with sub-6GHz 5G support, alongside the company’s N1 networking chip, which would introduce Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread connectivity.

The delayed iPad isn’t the only product expected next year. Gurman also points to refreshed MacBook Air and MacBook Neo models, alongside the iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and second-generation iPhone Air.

For now, Apple’s October event looks set to focus on the OLED iPad mini and new Macs, leaving the rest of its tablet lineup for 2027.

With Apple Intelligence support and improved connectivity reportedly on the way, the entry-level iPad could still be worth waiting for, even if it won’t be joining this month’s launches.
