OnePlus has officially launched the OnePlus 16 in China, bringing a record-breaking 185Hz display, a larger battery and upgraded cameras. However, all those improvements come at a cost, with the new flagship considerably more expensive than its predecessor.
The biggest highlight is the 6.78-inch OLED display, which runs at 165Hz by default but can reach 185Hz in supported games. OnePlus says it has kept the lower refresh rate for everyday use to maintain frame stability, reserving the faster mode for gaming.
Underneath, the OnePlus 16 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, a 2nm chipset capable of reaching clock speeds of 5GHz. It’s paired with LPDDR5X RAM and an upgraded Glacier cooling system, which OnePlus claims delivers 40% better cooling performance than before.
Battery life has also received a significant upgrade. The phone packs a massive 9,000mAh battery, up from the OnePlus 15‘s 7,300mAh capacity. Despite the increase, it still supports 100W wired and 50W wireless charging, with OnePlus claiming it can reach 80% in just 37 minutes.
The camera system has been refreshed too, led by a 200MP main sensor with optical image stabilisation. That’s joined by a 50MP ultrawide and a 50MP telephoto camera offering 3x optical zoom, while a 50MP camera handles selfies.
The OnePlus 16 also introduces an XPAN-style shooting mode for capturing ultra-wide 65:24 images, alongside three colour options and configurations offering up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage.
As for pricing, the OnePlus 16 starts at 5,699 yuan (around $848) for the 12GB/256GB model, rising to 8,199 yuan (around $1,220) for the top configuration. That’s a substantial increase over the OnePlus 15’s original 3,999 yuan starting price.
Sales begin in China on October 13, with introductory pricing and regional subsidies available until November 13. International availability has yet to be confirmed, but given how OnePlus has exited most regions, its launch will likely be very limited.
