AYN Odin 3 Portal gets Dragonwing Q8 power and a major battery upgrade

AYN has revealed more about the upcoming Odin 3 Portal, confirming serious processing power and a sizeable battery upgrade.

AYN confirmed both specifications in a YouTube video, a week after the company first teased the handheld as the successor to the Odin 2 Portal through images shared on Instagram and Discord.

Of the two confirmed specifications, the processor needs more explanation, as the Dragonwing Q8 is a modified Snapdragon 8 Elite that drops the cellular modem and camera processing, two features a gaming handheld has little use for.

Qualcomm launched the Snapdragon 8 Elite two years ago, so the Dragonwing Q8 is no longer the newest flagship-class silicon, but it still places the Portal among the most powerful Android handhelds currently available.

AYN already uses the same processor in the standard Odin 3, which it originally marketed as a Snapdragon 8 Elite device before revising its materials to name the Dragonwing Q8 instead.

Sharing silicon across the regular and Portal models follows an established pattern for the brand, as the Odin 2 and Odin 2 Portal both ran on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Where the Portal moves beyond the standard Odin 3 is battery capacity, as its 9,000mAh cell holds 1,000mAh more than the 8,000mAh packs inside both that model and the Odin 2 Portal.

That extra capacity will likely have more to power, since the Odin 2 Portal moved up to a 7-inch OLED panel, although AYN has not yet confirmed the screen size for its successor.

Beyond the battery, AYN confirmed full-size Hall Effect analogue sticks, which use magnetic sensors to resist the stick drift common on older controllers, along with rear paddle buttons and analogue triggers.

Pricing remains unconfirmed for the Odin 3 Portal, although the standard Odin 3 now sells for $369 (around £275), a figure reached after several price increases since its October 2025 release.

Those increases coincide with rising memory costs tied to AI data centre demand, which have pushed component prices up across consumer electronics and suggest the Portal will land above its smaller sibling on price.

AYN has yet to share a launch window for the handheld, and the company has also not confirmed the display, memory configurations or UK availability for its next Portal model.
