Amazon has quietly rebranded its Kindle Unlimited subscription service to Kindle+, marking one of the biggest changes to the reading platform since its launch. The new name is already appearing across Amazon’s website, alongside an updated focus on audiobooks, magazines and comics.
The change is more than just a new name, though. According to a report from Good e-Reader, Amazon is expanding how audiobooks fit into the subscription, allowing millions of US members to switch between reading an ebook and listening to its audiobook version at no additional cost. It’s a notable addition for subscribers who regularly move between reading and listening, without wanting to pay for a separate audiobook service.
Despite the rebrand, the core Kindle Unlimited experience remains largely unchanged. Subscribers can still borrow up to 20 titles at a time, with no due dates, and access their books through Kindle e-readers and the free Kindle app on compatible devices. The service continues to offer a rotating selection of ebooks, magazines and comics, with audiobooks now receiving greater prominence under the Kindle+ name.
Amazon has also updated its Kindle subscription landing pages, replacing Kindle Unlimited branding with Kindle+ and refreshing the promotional banners and descriptions to reflect the broader content offering. The new name brings the service closer to the naming conventions used by other subscription platforms, although it remains separate from Amazon’s existing Audible service.
As for pricing, Kindle+ still costs $11.99 per month in the US, with no increase announced alongside the rebrand. It’s also worth noting that the subscription isn’t included with Amazon Prime, meaning members will still need to pay separately to access the Kindle+ catalogue.
For existing subscribers, the biggest difference appears to be the expanded audiobook experience rather than any major changes to how borrowing works. Amazon hasn’t detailed whether the new branding and audiobook benefits will roll out identically across other markets, but for US readers, Kindle+ is already replacing the familiar Kindle Unlimited name.
