Samsung’s long-awaited smart glasses could finally arrive before the end of the year, with a new report suggesting the company’s Android XR-powered Intelligent Eyewear will launch in the US and South Korea in mid-December.
According to a report from ChoSun Biz, Samsung is preparing to introduce its first smart glasses in partnership with Google, potentially bringing another major competitor into a market currently dominated by Meta with its controversial eyewear.
While the reported launch window gives us a better idea of when to expect the glasses, Samsung has yet to confirm an official release date or pricing.
The glasses are expected to come in designs developed with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, offering a more conventional eyewear look rather than the bulkier appearance of traditional mixed reality headsets. All currently known models feature front-facing cameras, although Samsung could introduce camera-free versions further down the line.
Pricing remains one of the biggest unanswered questions. Samsung previously described its upcoming glasses as a premium product that would still come at a “reasonable price”, suggesting they could cost more than Meta’s entry-level smart glasses, which start at $299. For comparison, the more premium Oakley Meta Vanguard costs $499, although it’s unclear where Samsung intends to position its own offering.
What could set Samsung’s glasses apart is their integration with Android XR and Google’s Gemini AI assistant. Rather than positioning them as a replacement for smartphones, Samsung sees Intelligent Eyewear as an extension of the phone experience, much like a smartwatch. That approach could make the glasses particularly useful for Android users, with Gemini potentially providing a more connected experience across devices.
It’s a different strategy from Meta, which has increasingly focused on wearable technology as a possible successor to smartphones. Samsung, meanwhile, appears more interested in making its existing ecosystem work together, with Android XR providing the software foundation.
For now, Samsung hasn’t confirmed whether the glasses will launch outside the US and South Korea. But if the latest report proves accurate, we could finally get a proper look at its first Android XR smart glasses before Christmas.
