Want to play classic Nintendo DS games with the comfort brought by modern technology? Well, look no further than the ANBERNIC RG DS. It has a 4-inch IPS display with a clamshell form factor, mimicking the original and iconic look of the Nintendo DS.
It’s roughly the same size as the Nintendo DSi LL but has two additional sticks at either side of the bottom screen. Not to mention, this device has a screen resolution of 640×480, which is higher than that of the original Nintendo DS, but only a discerning eye can see the differences in pixel graphics.
According to leaks, the ANBERNIC RG DS is powered by an RK3568 Rockchip, which is a relatively weak chipset for an Android-based handheld like this one, but it’s still reportedly capable of running multiple Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS games. This is mostly thanks to the DraStic emulator, which runs well on low-powered devices.
However, it’s missing some modern touches such as the RetroAchievements. You get 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. If that’s not enough for you, an external microSD can be used to support your game library.
You also have the option to choose between three wonderful colour palette options: Black and Crimson Red, Turquoise Blue, and Polar White. Each device comes with a matching capacitive stylus.
The only downside is that the device cannot house the stylus the same way the original Nintendo DS could. This device’s screen also operates in a different manner from the original’s resistive touchscreen, which may introduce a different element of input latency.
This device is basically a Nintendo DS clone, allowing you to enjoy the nostalgic games from the Nintendo DS and even the 3DS without breaking the bank. The RG DS joins the recent wave of of clamshell handhelds like the Ayn Thor and Ayaneo’s Pocket DS.
It’s currently on sale for only $93.99 until December 15, 2025. Past this date, it’ll be available to purchase for $99.99.
