Shokz takes on Apple’s AirPods 4 with the OpenFit Pro

Shokz has unveiled the OpenFit Pro, a new pair of open-ear true wireless earbuds that bring noise reduction to a category traditionally built around situational awareness.

Launching at CES 2026, the OpenFit Pro sits at the top of Shokz’s lineup and is clearly aimed at users who want greater immersion without fully sealing off their ears.

That puts it in direct competition with Apple’s latest AirPods, particularly for listeners who want something lighter and more awareness-friendly than traditional in-ear buds.

The OpenFit Pro introduces Shokz’s first open-ear noise reduction system, allowing users to switch between a more immersive listening mode and a fully open mode depending on their environment.

At the core of the earbuds is a new synchronised dual-diaphragm driver design, which Shokz says improves clarity, bass response and overall balance compared to earlier OpenFit models.

The drivers are paired with Shokz SuperBoost technology, using large diaphragms and aerospace-grade materials to reduce distortion at higher volumes.

Shokz has also optimised the OpenFit Pro for Dolby Atmos with head tracking, a feature typically reserved for more traditional in-ear designs like AirPods.

For call quality and noise control, the earbuds use a triple-microphone system combined with an ear-adaptive algorithm that adjusts noise reduction in real time.

Noise reduction levels can be adjusted manually through the Shokz app, giving users more control over how much outside sound is allowed in.

In terms of comfort, the OpenFit Pro uses flexible nickel-titanium alloy ear hooks with a soft silicone finish designed to fit securely without pressing into the ear canal.

Each earbud weighs just over 12 grams, keeping them light enough for long listening sessions or workouts.

Battery life is rated at up to 12 hours on a single charge with noise reduction disabled, or up to 50 hours with the charging case included.

A quick-charge feature delivers up to four hours of playback from a 10-minute top-up, while wireless charging is also supported.

Additional features include physical waterproof buttons, wear detection, Bluetooth 6.1 connectivity and an IP55 rating for sweat and water resistance.

The OpenFit Pro will retail for £219 in the UK, with pre-orders kicking off today, 6 January 2026.
