OnePlus may be stepping even further back from foldables.
According to a new report from leaker Yogesh Brar, the long-rumoured OnePlus Open 2 has been cancelled, raising fresh doubts about whether the company still has plans to compete in the foldable phone market at all.
The original OnePlus Open launched in 2023 to strong reviews and was widely regarded as one of the best foldables available at the time. Despite that positive reception, OnePlus has yet to announce a follow-up, and this latest claim suggests a successor may not arrive anytime soon if ever.
Brar also claims there’s a 90% chance that the OnePlus 15s has been cancelled, meaning two anticipated 2026 devices may now be off the table. While none of this has been confirmed by OnePlus, the rumours line up with what the company has previously said about its priorities.
One major factor appears to be timing. OnePlus stated that it wouldn’t release a new foldable in 2025 because the category wasn’t yet mainstream. While foldables continue to grow in visibility, and could receive a major boost if Apple enters the market, they still represent a relatively small slice of overall smartphone sales.
There’s also the issue of overlap within the wider Oppo group. OnePlus is owned by Oppo, which is reportedly preparing a global launch of the Oppo Find N6. If history is anything to go by, a OnePlus Open 2 would likely be closely based on that device, potentially making it redundant and risking internal competition between the two brands.

As for the OnePlus 15s, the situation appears similar. The phone was expected to be an India-focused model and closely related to the upcoming OnePlus 15T. If both devices were positioned too close together, OnePlus may have decided there simply wasn’t room for both, especially if availability outside China and India would be limited anyway.
For now, these reports should be taken with a pinch of salt. But if accurate, they suggest that OnePlus is narrowing its focus and becoming more cautious about spreading its lineup too thin, particularly in categories that haven’t yet proven themselves at scale.
We’ll keep an eye out for any official confirmation, but don’t be surprised if OnePlus’s next big moves stick firmly to more traditional smartphone designs.
