Samsung wants to turn the living room TV into a guitar teacher

Samsung has announced a new partnership with Fender that aims to transform the living room TV into a full-scale music-learning space by bringing Fender Play directly to Samsung televisions in 2026.

The collaboration introduces the world’s first TV-optimised version of Fender Play, Fender’s subscription-based digital learning platform built around guided, video-led lessons for guitar, bass, acoustic instruments, and ukulele.

For the first time, Fender Play’s structured lessons will move from phones and tablets to the biggest screen in the house, positioning the TV as a shared learning and practice hub rather than a passive entertainment device.

Samsung says the experience is designed to feel natural in a living room setting, combining large-screen visuals, TV-grade audio, and remote-based navigation to make practising feel less like homework and more like entertainment.

Players using the Fender Play TV app will be able to follow step-by-step lessons organised by skill level, learn through recognisable songs, or choose specific instruments, including electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass, or ukulele.

The app also includes a Jam Mode, which lets users play along with curated backing tracks across different genres, turning the TV into a virtual stage rather than a traditional lesson screen.

Samsung previewed the Fender Play TV experience at CES 2026, demonstrating how higher-resolution displays and immersive sound can make music learning feel more engaging and social.

According to Samsung, the larger format makes it easier to follow finger placement, chord transitions, and rhythm timing, which can be harder to track on smaller screens.

Fender says the move aligns with its long-term goal of making music education more accessible, particularly for beginners who may feel intimidated by traditional lessons or complex learning tools.

Unlike many music learning platforms that are designed for solo use, the TV-based format is positioned as something families or groups can use together, encouraging shared practice and casual jam sessions.

The Fender Play TV app will launch globally on Samsung TVs in the first half of 2026, with availability tied to supported models and regions.

Samsung is using its market-leading TVs and Fender’s learning platform to turn the TV into something its users can actively learn with, not just watch.

If successful, the partnership could redefine how people think about using their living room screens, turning downtime into practice time without leaving the sofa.
