Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 could launch later this year with a creaseless inner display, following a quiet teaser from Samsung Display at CES 2026.
During the show, Samsung Display showcased what it described as its first foldable panel with no visible crease at all, a long-standing issue that has affected every foldable phone so far, from book-style designs to clamshells.
While the demo wasn’t tied to a specific product, it’s clear that the technology is mature enough for mass production, and the hope is that it’ll debut on the Galaxy Z Fold 8, rather than Apple’s much-rumoured iPhone Fold.
Foldables have come a long way since the original Galaxy Fold. Devices like the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Pixel 10 Pro Fold are thinner, tougher and more refined, while brands like Samsung and Huawei are already experimenting with tri-fold designs.
But even with all that progress, the crease has remained a visual reminder that foldables are still a compromise compared to traditional slab phones.
Samsung Display’s new approach reportedly focuses on the optical clear adhesive (OCA) layer used to bond the display components. By switching to a more malleable version of this layer, the company is said to have dramatically reduced or potentially eliminated the crease that forms when the screen is folded.
It’s a subtle change, but one that could make a big difference in everyday use, especially when reading, watching videos, or scrolling across the centre of the display.
Interestingly, reports suggest Samsung Display may have held back additional details because similar technology is also destined for Apple’s future foldable. Apple is said to have restricted Samsung from publicly showing off panels intended for its own devices ahead of launch.
Samsung Electronics is expected to finalise its display plans later this quarter, which lines up neatly with the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s usual release window. If the crease-less screen makes it into the final product, it could mark one of the most meaningful upgrades the Fold series has seen, and a clear step toward making foldables feel truly mainstream.
