Philips Hue appears to be preparing a response to IKEA’s eye-catching Varmblixt doughnut lamp, with an upgraded version of its existing Hue Flourish table lamp spotted ahead of an official announcement.
A (now removed) listing on Amazon Germany suggests that the Hue Flourish is about to receive a notable brightness boost, increasing from 806 lumens to 1,100 lumens.
That jump should translate into a visibly brighter output, particularly useful for ambient lighting in larger rooms or brighter spaces.
Unlike some other lights in the Flourish range, the table lamp does not feature a built-in LED. Instead, it relies on a standard E27 Philips Hue bulb housed inside its frosted glass shell, allowing users to swap bulbs as needed.
The higher lumen figure appears to come from an updated bundled bulb rather than a redesign of the lamp itself.
Physically, the lamp looks unchanged. The upgraded model reportedly retains the same dimensions as before, measuring 26.1cm wide and 17.5cm high, meaning existing owners won’t see a shift in footprint or styling.
The design remains a rounded, glowing disc, placing it visually closer than ever to IKEA’s popular doughnut-shaped Varmblixt lamp.
Pricing also appears familiar. The German listing suggests the refreshed Flourish will launch at roughly the same level as the previous version at €149.99 or around $180.
The earlier model has since disappeared from Philips Hue’s official store, hinting that the brighter version may be positioned as a quiet replacement rather than a separate product.
That puts it well above the price of IKEA’s Varmblixt, which is expected to retail for $99.99 when it launches in April.
However, Philips Hue is clearly targeting a different audience, particularly users already invested in the Hue ecosystem, complete with a Hue Bridge and app-based control.
For those users, the upgraded Flourish offers tighter smart home integration, full colour control, and now a welcome bump in brightness, even if IKEA still wins on price alone.
