MediaTek has recently unveiled the Dimensity 8500 and Dimensity 9500s, expanding its lineup beneath the flagship Dimensity 9500.
These chips aim to deliver high performance and advanced features without the full flagship price tag, positioning them as direct rivals to Qualcomm’s (almost top-end) Snapdragon 8 Gen 5.
The Dimensity 8500 targets premium mid‑range smartphones. Built on a 4nm process, it uses an “all big core” design with eight Cortex‑A725 cores clocked at 3.4GHz.
MediaTek claims 25% better graphics performance and 20% lower power consumption compared to its predecessor. It supports LPDDR5X RAM at up to 9600Mbps and even enables ray tracing, a feature once reserved for flagship devices.
Meanwhile, the Dimensity 9500s is built on a 3nm process and adopts a flagship‑grade architecture. It features a Cortex‑X925 ultra core running at 3.73GHz, alongside three Cortex‑X4 cores and four Cortex‑A720 cores. Graphics are powered by the Immortalis‑G925 GPU, promising immersive gameplay with advanced ray tracing.
The Dimensity 9500, launched in late 2025, remains MediaTek’s most powerful chip. It uses a third‑generation All Big Core CPU design with a 4.21GHz ultra core and console‑class gaming capabilities. Both the 8500 and 9500s sit below this flagship, offering scaled‑down but still impressive performance.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips have long dominated the high‑end smartphone market. With the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 expected to power many premium phones in 2026, MediaTek’s new Dimensity chips provide manufacturers with competitive alternatives. Consumers benefit from more choice, better efficiency, and gaming features trickling down into mid‑range phones.
This means more smartphones in 2026 could deliver flagship‑like experiences without flagship‑level prices. MediaTek’s strategy clearly signals its intent to push deeper into Qualcomm’s territory.
