The Galaxy S26 could get a key iPhone feature, but we’re doubtful

The Samsung Galaxy S26 might borrow one of Apple’s most talked-about recent additions — but there’s good reason to be sceptical.

According to a new leak, Samsung has explored adding a dedicated camera control button to its next flagship, similar to the Camera Control found on recent iPhones. However, whether it actually makes it to the final device is another matter.

The claim comes via Android Authority, which spotted a LinkedIn profile belonging to a former employee of one of Samsung’s supply partners. Among their listed contributions is a line referencing work on “a new camera button with swipe gesture functionality for Samsung Galaxy S26.”

That description closely mirrors Apple’s Camera Control. Specifically, Apple’s version combines a physical button with swipe gestures for zooming, switching modes, and adjusting settings.

To be fair, Apple didn’t invent the idea of a shutter button. Sony’s Xperia phones have offered physical camera buttons for years. Since Apple reintroduced the concept in a more gesture-heavy form, other Android manufacturers have followed suit. For instance, phones like the Honor Magic 8 Pro and Oppo Find X9 Pro now offer their own takes on camera-focused side buttons.

The problem is that, so far, there’s no concrete evidence that this feature has survived Samsung’s development process. Recent renders and dummy units of the Galaxy S26 show no additional buttons. Moreover, none of the more established leaks have mentioned a camera control feature at all. With the expected launch just weeks away, its absence from other reports is notable.

That doesn’t mean the LinkedIn claim is false — just that plans change. Features like this are often tested internally and dropped before release. This is especially true if they complicate design, cost, or usability. If Samsung was experimenting with a camera control button, it may have decided to hold it back for a future model instead.

The timing also matters. The Galaxy S26 lineup is expected to be unveiled at a Galaxy Unpacked event on February 25, leaving little room for major surprises that haven’t already leaked. At this stage, a brand-new hardware button would be difficult to keep under wraps.

For photographers, a well-implemented camera control button could be genuinely useful. For now, though, this one feels more like a shelved idea than a confirmed upgrade. Until Samsung shows otherwise, we’d take it with a pinch of salt.
