OLED monitors are becoming one of the fastest-growing segments in the PC display market, as buyers increasingly prioritise contrast, HDR capability, and colour accuracy over the incremental resolution and refresh rate gains typical of LCD panels.
For nearly two decades, LCD technology has dominated monitors, laptops, and tablets, even as OLED became mainstream in smartphones and televisions much earlier.
While monitors have grown larger and faster, many LCD panels still rely on backlighting systems that limit contrast and prevent consistent HDR performance across desktop platforms.
Those constraints have held back progress in gaming visuals, video production, photography workflows, and OS-level HDR adoption, where precise brightness control and deep blacks matter most.
The shift toward OLED monitors began accelerating in 2023 as panel supply improved and manufacturers expanded OLED offerings beyond a narrow premium niche.
OLED monitor shipments accelerate
According to estimates from UBI Research, global OLED monitor shipments reached roughly 3.2 million units in 2025, representing a 64 percent increase compared with the previous year.
Annual sales are expected to rise to around 5 million units in 2026 as OLED panels expand further into gaming, creator-focused, and premium productivity displays.
By 2030, UBI Research projects annual OLED monitor shipments could reach approximately 15 million units, marking a four- to fivefold increase from 2025 levels.
This growth places OLED monitors among the most rapidly expanding categories within the broader display market over the second half of the decade.
The forecast reflects improving manufacturing yields alongside greater consumer willingness to pay for visible image quality gains rather than incremental specification upgrades.
Panel makers expand OLED capacity
The current OLED monitor market relies primarily on Korean panel suppliers, with LG Display producing WOLED panels and Samsung Display supplying QD-OLED panels.
QD-OLED technology currently leads the high-performance monitor segment, particularly in gaming displays that combine high refresh rates with stronger brightness and colour volume.
At the same time, Chinese panel makers are accelerating investment in OLED manufacturing to reduce reliance on Korean suppliers and expand global panel capacity.
TCL CSOT and other Chinese firms are building large-scale OLED production facilities targeting both TV and IT display markets.
UBI Research expects increased participation from Chinese manufacturers to improve supply stability and introduce pricing pressure that supports wider adoption across more monitor categories.
As OLED spreads beyond gaming into creative and professional displays, the technology is shifting from a niche upgrade to a defining feature of premium PC monitors.
The ongoing transition away from LCD reflects a broader industry move toward displays capable of meeting modern HDR standards and rising expectations for desktop image quality.
