Spotify’s upgraded lyric translations are going global

Spotify is giving its lyrics feature a noticeable upgrade.

Now, global lyric translations are rolling out alongside a couple of smaller changes. As a result, the updates are designed to keep listeners more closely locked into the words of a song.

The headline update is that lyric translations are no longer limited to select regions. After first launching in 2022 and expanding to more than 25 markets last year, Spotify is now making translations available worldwide.

If a track supports it, users can tap the translate icon on the lyrics card. Then, the translated text appears directly beneath the original lines. Translations default to your device’s language. Also, switching back to the original lyrics is just a tap away. The feature is available to both Free and Premium users.

Spotify is also improving how lyrics behave when you’re offline. For Premium subscribers, lyrics will now automatically download alongside saved tracks. This means you can follow along even when there’s no signal — whether that’s on the Tube, on a plane, or somewhere your data just refuses to cooperate. It’s a small change, but one that makes downloaded music feel more complete.

The third update is more visual. Spotify is introducing lyric previews that place the words directly beneath the album artwork or Canvas animation on the Now Playing screen.

Early testing suggests this layout makes listeners more likely to engage with lyrics, and encourages them to revisit songs they’ve recently discovered. Sharing individual lines to social platforms still works as before. Also, if you’re not a fan of the new look, lyric previews can be turned off from the three-dot menu.

Taken together, the updates reinforce how central lyrics have become to Spotify’s listening experience. The company says lyrics are viewed hundreds of millions of times every day. This rollout feels like a clear attempt to keep Spotify competitive as rivals experiment with richer, more interactive music features.

For anyone who listens across languages or just likes knowing exactly what’s being sung, Spotify’s lyric upgrades make following along easier than ever.
