If you’re hoping for a shiny new Nvidia graphics card this year, you might want to reset expectations.
A new report suggests Nvidia won’t release any new gaming GPUs in 2026. This would mark the company’s first full year without a consumer graphics launch in more than three decades.
According to The Information, Nvidia has quietly scrapped plans for any new gaming cards this year as the global memory shortage continues to bite. With RAM supplies under extreme pressure, the company is reportedly prioritising its far more lucrative AI chips. As a result, gaming cards are taking a back seat.
That’s a big shift. Nvidia has managed to release at least one gaming GPU every year since the early 1990s. It has survived everything from crypto booms to pandemic-era supply chain chaos. This time, though, demand from AI data centres appears to have tipped the balance.
The report claims Nvidia has indefinitely delayed “Kicker”, the internal codename for a mid-cycle RTX 50-series refresh — likely the Super models many were expecting. While designs were said to be ready, Nvidia allegedly decided the memory costs simply weren’t worth it.
It doesn’t stop there. Nvidia is also said to be cutting production of existing RTX 50-series cards, further tightening supply. That could spell trouble for anyone shopping in the mid-range. Cards like the RTX 5070 and RTX 5060 Ti are already seeing prices creep above MSRP in some regions.
If you were planning to skip the current generation entirely, the outlook doesn’t get much better. The same report suggests Nvidia’s next major architecture, codenamed Rubin and expected to underpin the RTX 60-series, may not enter mass production until late 2027. As a result, gamers could face an unusually long gap between GPU generations.
None of this has been officially confirmed by Nvidia, but it lines up with wider industry concerns around memory availability and rising component costs. Even Nvidia executives have previously warned about pressure on supply. This is particularly important as AI hardware continues to dominate.
