After multiple leaks, the Sony WF-1000XM6 are finally official

Sony has officially launched the WF-1000XM6 true wireless earbuds, confirming earlier leaks and introducing upgraded noise cancelling, improved call quality and a refined design over the previous WF-1000XM5.

The new earbuds headline Sony’s 1000X series refresh for 2026, while the company has also introduced a Sand Pink colour option for the WH-1000XM6 over-ear headphones.

Sony claims the WF-1000XM6 achieves a 25% improvement in noise reduction compared to the WF-1000XM5, driven by the new HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3e working alongside the Integrated Processor V2.

The earbuds now use four microphones per earbud rather than three, allowing more precise control of mid-to-high frequency noise that commonly appears in environments such as cafés and public transport.

Sony states that the Integrated Processor V2 enables 32-bit audio processing, compared to 24-bit on the previous model, supporting higher-resolution playback and refined signal handling.

A redesigned driver unit combines a lightweight dome for extended high frequencies with a softer edge designed to enhance bass response, while Sony includes Hi-Res Audio Wireless and DSEE Extreme support.

The WF-1000XM6 also incorporates two microphones and a bone conduction sensor per side, with Sony positioning the system as its most advanced call quality setup in the 1000X lineup.

Improvements across the board

Sony has reduced the earbud body size by approximately 11% compared to the WF-1000XM5, reshaping the housing to better follow the contours of the inner ear.

A revised ventilation structure aims to reduce internal noise from movement, while updated materials and hinge mechanisms improve case usability and one-handed opening.

Connectivity receives an upgrade through a larger antenna, which Sony says measures 1.5 times the size of the previous model’s, supporting more stable Bluetooth performance.

The earbuds support LE Audio for lower latency connections, and battery life remains rated at up to eight hours per charge with up to 24 hours total using the charging case.

Sony states that approximately 25% of the plastics used in the WF-1000XM6 incorporate circular materials, and the packaging ships without plastic components.

The WF-1000XM6 will be available in Black and Platinum Silver from February 2026 with a suggested retail price of €300 / £250.

Sony has also released the WH-1000XM6 in Sand Pink, which launches on the Sony Store Online from February 12 to February 18, 2026, before wider retail availability from February 19, 2026, at €450 / £400.
