At MWC 2026, Lenovo unveiled a concept that could shake up the way we think about business laptops.
The ThinkBook Modular AI PC Concept is exactly what it sounds like, a selectively modular Think-branded laptop designed to adapt to different work modes. Instead of locking you into one fixed form factor, it allows for flexibility.
Unlike most commercial laptops, which prioritise stability over experimentation, this concept leans into flexibility. Lenovo describes it as “carry small, use big.” At its core is a 14-inch ultra-thin base system. However, it supports multiple display configurations thanks to detachable and swappable modules.
The secondary display can be mounted to the top cover for face-to-face collaboration. It can also sit alongside the laptop using an integrated kickstand as a travel monitor. Alternatively, it can even replace the keyboard entirely to create a dual-screen setup. In its most expanded configuration, the viewing area stretches to roughly 19 inches. All this is possible while keeping the base device portable.
Modularity extends beyond the screen. The concept includes a detachable Bluetooth keyboard and interchangeable I/O modules, including USB-A, USB-C and HDMI. Lenovo uses pogo-pin connectors to handle power and data transfer between components. Their aim is to keep the system stable and secure despite its flexible design.
It’s part of a broader AI-focused push across Lenovo’s portfolio this year. The company says the concept is built to support contextual, AI-enabled workflows. It offers assistance alongside everyday productivity tasks. While Lenovo hasn’t confirmed commercial plans, the idea reflects growing interest in devices that evolve with how people work. This is especially relevant as hybrid setups become the norm.
Traditional ThinkPads too
Lenovo also used MWC to expand its more traditional ThinkPad lineup. They introduced updated T-Series models with improved repairability and optional 5MP cameras. There are also new AI-ready configurations across Intel, AMD and Snapdragon platforms. But it’s the modular concept that stands out.
Work laptops aren’t usually the most exciting category. If Lenovo can turn this proof of concept into a real product without sacrificing durability or enterprise reliability, it could make business PCs feel a lot less predictable.
