One of the top Android gaming tablets is getting a 2026 upgrade

Compact Android gaming tablets are having a bit of a moment again.

One of last year’s standout contenders is already getting a sequel. Redmagic has started teasing its next device, the Gaming Tablet 5 Pro. This hints that a follow-up to the well-received Redmagic Astra is on the way.

The Redmagic Astra, launched last year, offered a slightly different take on the compact gaming tablet formula. Instead of an LCD panel, it used an AMOLED display. It also included a fingerprint scanner, something Lenovo’s Legion Tab notably lacked while staying in a similar price bracket.

Now the company appears ready to build on that formula. A newly released teaser image shows the upcoming Gaming Tablet 5 Pro. While details are still thin, the design suggests Redmagic is sticking with a similar compact form factor to the Astra.

Unfortunately, Redmagic hasn’t shared a full spec sheet or release window yet. They have only confirmed that the device is “coming soon.” That leaves plenty of room for speculation about what upgrades might be coming.

Still, if the company follows the same playbook as the Astra, the next Redmagic tablet could once again offer a compelling alternative to Lenovo’s Legion lineup, especially for gamers who want flagship power in a smaller, more portable device.

The teaser surfaced shortly after MWC 2026, where Lenovo revealed the Legion Tab (Gen 5), another major player in the compact gaming tablet space. Lenovo’s new model brings upgrades such as a refreshed 8.8-inch IPS LCD and a larger 9,000mAh battery.

It also offers the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. However, it comes with a noticeably higher price tag and still skips some features users might expect. For example, it lacks biometric authentication.
