Panasonic’s latest Lumix travel camera has a 15x optical zoom

Panasonic has unveiled a new pocket-sized travel camera that’s all about versatility. It packs a 15x optical zoom into a body small enough to slip into your bag.

The Lumix TZ300 is aimed at travellers and casual creators. It suits those who want more reach and flexibility than a smartphone can offer.

At the core is a 1.0-inch 20.1MP BSI CMOS sensor, paired with a Leica-certified 24–360mm lens. This gives it the range to jump from wide landscapes to distant subjects without sacrificing detail. That zoom is the headline feature here. However, Panasonic is also leaning on improved low-light performance, with the larger sensor helping to keep noise down in darker scenes.

Despite the compact design, the TZ300 still squeezes in a few creative tricks. There’s AF Macro support for focusing as close as 3cm, which should come in handy for detailed close-ups. Additionally, there are 22 built-in filters for quick edits straight from the camera.

Video is another big part of the package. The TZ300 supports 4K recording at 30fps, along with Full HD at 120fps for slow-motion clips. Panasonic’s 4K Photo mode is also here. It lets you grab stills from burst footage at 30fps which is useful for fast-moving moments you might otherwise miss.

To keep things steady, the camera uses POWER O.I.S. for stills and 5-axis Hybrid O.I.S.+ for video. This should help smooth out handheld shots, especially when zoomed in or shooting on the move.

Connectivity is fairly straightforward, with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support for quick transfers via the Panasonic Image App. There’s also USB-C charging, making it easier to top up using a power bank while travelling.

The Lumix TZ300 will launch in Europe from May 2026, available in black and grey. The pricing is set at €999 / £869.

For anyone who still prefers a dedicated camera over their phone, the TZ300 feels like a classic travel zoom. It is just updated with modern video features and connectivity to keep it relevant.
