Samsung has taken a noticeably thinner approach with its latest mid-range phones.
The Galaxy A57 5G leads the charge at just 6.9mm thick, down from 7.4mm on its predecessor. Yet, it still packs a familiar 5000mAh battery and a pretty large 6.7-inch screen.
That slimmed-down design is not the only tweak. The A57 also drops 20g in weight (now 179g) and pairs its thinner build with a refined “Ambient Island” camera design. Additionally, this comes complete with gradient finishes and mirror detailing to help it stand apart from the more understated (and thicker) Galaxy A37 5G.
Both phones stick with Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the front and back and step up to IP68 water resistance, a small but welcome upgrade over the previous IP67 rating. Moreover, displays are similarly matched, with 1900nits peak brightness and Vision Booster support. However, the A57 edges ahead with noticeably slimmer bezels.

Performance is where the gap widens. The A57 runs on the newer Exynos 1680, while the A37 gets the Exynos 1480. The higher-end model also benefits from a 13% larger vapour chamber, hinting at better sustained performance for gaming or longer camera sessions.
Moreover, camera upgrades are subtle but meaningful. Both phones feature a 50MP main sensor, but the A57 adds faster shutter speeds, improved multi-frame processing and a low-noise mode for both photos and video. Meanwhile, the A37 focuses more on consistency, with a larger pixel size and improved ISP for clearer video. In addition, it offers AI-powered scene recognition for portraits and edits.
That said, the secondary lenses (12MP ultrawide and 5MP macro on the A57, 8MP ultrawide and 5MP macro on the A37) remain completely unchanged compared to their predecessors, as do the front-facing 12MP cameras.

Software is a big part of the pitch this year. Both devices launch with One UI 8.5, the first A-series phones to do so, and come with six generations of OS updates and six years of security support. That’s a big jump over the four-year promise from last year’s mid-range collection.
Furthermore, Samsung is also leaning heavily into AI, with what it calls “Awesome Intelligence.” This brings Google Gemini integration, upgraded Circle to Search, and new voice transcription features across calls, recordings and voicemails.
Battery life remains unchanged on paper, with 5000mAh cells and fast charging hitting 60% in 30 minutes.
The Galaxy A57 5G starts at £529 (256GB), while the A37 5G comes in at £399 (128GB). Both are set to launch on April 10.
Slimmer, lighter, and a bit smarter – Samsung’s latest A-series refresh isn’t a huge leap, but it’s clearly a more refined one.
