Grado’s headphones sound even better with the Classic Series

Grado is giving its most recognisable headphones a refresh without actually replacing them.

The company has introduced a new Classic Series, which brings together seven of its long-running models under one banner. At the same time, it is quietly upgrading them with improved internals and build tweaks.

The headline change is the addition of Grado’s new X2 driver platform across the lineup. This updated driver is designed to improve clarity, balance and overall control, while keeping the lively, open sound the brand is known for.

Don’t view this as a radical shift in tuning but more of a refinement; the kind of upgrade long-time fans will likely appreciate.

Alongside the driver changes, Grado has also updated other areas too. The Classic Series models now use a new Signature cable design, which is lighter and more flexible than cables previously used.

Additionally, they come with refined headbands that are aimed at improving long-term comfort. That said, Grado is sticking with its traditional hard-wired cable setup, leaving detachable options to its higher-end Signature Line.

This new series isn’t about introducing fresh products but reorganising what’s already there. The Classic Series now sits alongside Grado’s Signature and Wireless lines. As a result, it helps to simplify what has historically been a slightly confusing product lineup.

The range itself spans a wide price bracket, starting with the entry-level SR60 at $125 / £125. It climbs all the way to the flagship GS3000 at $1,995 / £1,995. In between sit familiar models like the SR80, SR325, RS1, Hemp and GS1000. All of these have been staples in the audiophile space for years.

All models continue to be hand-assembled in Brooklyn, New York, which remains a key part of Grado’s identity more than 70 years after it was founded.

The Classic Series will begin shipping in late March, 2026; with prices unchanged from previous versions.

Less of a reinvention, then, more of a tidy-up, and one that brings small but meaningful upgrades to some of the most recognisable headphones in the business.
