IO Interactive has confirmed the Nintendo Switch 2 version of 007 First Light will miss the 27 May launch window, with the studio pushing the port to an unspecified date later this summer. However, the release on all other platforms will stay the same.
The delay marks a second scheduling setback for the game overall, as the 27 May date itself represents a slip from an original March release window, leaving Switch 2 owners as the last platform audience waiting on IO Interactive’s James Bond origin story.
In a post on X, IO Interactive said it is “excited to see players discovering James Bond’s reimagined origin story” and that the team is “looking forward to bringing you the best game experience possible across all platforms,” framing the delay as a quality measure rather than a platform-specific technical failure.
The Switch 2 port joins a broader pattern of Nintendo’s new hardware, creating scheduling complications for third-party developers, with several high-profile titles encountering difficulties that pushed their releases past original timelines.
As Kotaku notes, Gearbox Entertainment delayed and ultimately shelved its Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4 entirely, while the Switch 2 port of Elden Ring was pushed to an unconfirmed window after the game showed severe performance issues during a public demo at Gamescom 2025.
007 First Light has faced additional turbulence in its pre-release period, with IO Interactive publishing PC system requirements earlier this year that required revision after observers flagged inconsistencies in the original specifications, with the studio attributing the error to an internal miscommunication that surfaced an outdated version of the requirements.
Sony has separately announced a limited-edition 007 First Light DualSense controller tied to the game’s wider launch. It looks pretty slick and can be seen in the trailer below.
IO Interactive has not confirmed a specific release window for the Switch 2 version beyond the summer indication, with further details expected ahead of the 27 May PS5, Xbox, and PC release.
