OnePlus could be gearing up to enter the handheld gaming space — and a fresh leak may have given us our first proper look at the device.
In fact, images shared by tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, in an edited post, appear to show a prototype gaming handheld.
From that single image, the design already stands out. The device leans into a boxier, more squared-off shape compared to rivals. Moreover, it’s paired with a clean black finish and what’s described as a contrasting purple hand rest. All-in-all, it’s a more playful look than the typical all-black “serious gamer” aesthetic, and feels in line with OnePlus.
There are a few unusual touches too. Most notably, the handheld appears to include a rear camera module, which isn’t something you typically see on devices built purely for gaming. It’s unclear what that would be used for, however it does suggest OnePlus might be experimenting with features beyond just play.
Specs are still up in the air, but another tipster, Bald Panda via Digital Trends, claims the device could feature an 8-inch display and run on a MediaTek Dimensity chipset. While there’s no confirmation on the exact processor yet, if accurate it would mark a shift away from the Snapdragon chips commonly used in high-end gaming hardware.
The leak lands at an interesting time for OnePlus. Recent reports suggested the company was scaling back in some markets following leadership changes. Yet launches like the Nord 6, and now this, tell a different story. Rather than slowing down, OnePlus seems to be experimenting with entirely new categories.
That said, this is still early days. There’s no official confirmation, no launch window, and no pricing to go on yet. But if the leak holds up, it points to OnePlus testing the waters in a space currently dominated by the likes of Valve and ASUS.
For now, it’s just a glimpse but it’s enough to suggest OnePlus isn’t done surprising us just yet.
