Sony might have accidentally revealed its next pair of flagship headphones, and they look set to mark a pretty big milestone.
Listings spotted on Sony’s own Australia and New Zealand websites briefly mentioned a new model called the “1000X The Collexion” (WH-1000XX) before being taken down. This hints at a special release for the 10th anniversary of its popular noise-cancelling line.
The leak didn’t stick around long, but it showed enough to suggest this isn’t just another routine refresh. The “XX” naming appears to reference the decade mark since the original MDR-1000X launched in 2016. Meanwhile, the “Collexion” branding points to something more limited and design-focused than usual.
Details are still thin, but alt text from the listing confirmed at least one white colour option, alongside earlier rumours of a black variant. There’s no official look at the headphones yet. However, previous reports suggest a more premium build using metal and synthetic leather. The design is said to be non-foldable, similar to recent Sony models.
Pricing could be where things get interesting. A prior report from Dealabs claimed the headphones could land at around €629 (roughly $740), a noticeable jump over current models like the WH-1000XM5. Active noise cancellation is expected alongside Sony’s DSEE Ultimate audio upscaling and a MediaTek chipset, though there’s no clear indication of major sound upgrades.
That lines up with another rumour from a user claiming hands-on access. They suggested the focus is more on materials and finishes than on a big leap in audio performance.
For now, Sony hasn’t said anything publicly, and the pages have already been pulled. Still, leaks appearing on official sites tend to mean one thing: a launch probably isn’t far off.
