iOS 27 could let you create your own passes in Apple Wallet

Apple looks set to fix one of Apple Wallet’s longest-standing limitations.

According to a new reportiOS 27 may introduce a “Create a Pass” feature which will allow users to build their own digital passes instead of relying on apps and businesses to support Wallet integration.

Right now, adding something to Apple Wallet usually depends on whether a company — like an airline, gym or café — has done the work to support it. If they haven’t, you’re stuck juggling screenshots, emails or even physical cards. However, this new feature flips that around. It puts control directly in the user’s hands.

The idea is straightforward. Users will be able to create passes for tickets, membership cards, reward cards and gift cards directly on their iPhone. The feature is expected to live behind the familiar “+” button in the Wallet app. It will also be within the card-adding interface, making it easy to find without digging through menus.

Once inside, you’ll have a couple of options. You can build a pass manually, entering details and customising how it looks, or simply scan a QR code using your iPhone camera to generate a digital version automatically. Furthermore, that second option could be especially useful for events or services that provide QR-based entry but don’t officially support Apple Wallet.

Apple is also reportedly testing a handful of templates to keep things organised. These include a Standard layout, a Membership format for gyms or access cards, and an Event-style pass for tickets. Each comes with its own colour-coded design, and users should be able to tweak elements like text, colours and images to better match what they’re storing.

This isn’t entirely new territory. References to pass creation tools appeared in Apple’s backend code earlier this year. However, this latest report adds more detail on how the feature might actually work.

It also brings Apple closer in line with competitors. Google Wallet already supports user-created passes. Meanwhile, iPhone users have had to rely on third-party tools to achieve something similar. If it lands with iOS 27, Apple’s approach could finally make Wallet feel less restrictive. It would then be a lot more useful in everyday situations.
