TCL’s more affordable SQD-Mini LED TVs are coming to the UK

TCL is bringing its next wave of Mini LED TVs to the UK, and this time the focus is simple: flagship-level performance without flagship pricing.

The new C7L-UK and C8L-UK SQD-Mini LED TVs sit just below TCL’s top-end models. However, they still pack in some seriously high-end display tech, including brighter panels, denser dimming zones, and upgraded colour performance.

At the centre of both TVs is TCL’s new Super Quantum Dot (SQD) layer. The company says this layer delivers a 69% boost in colour accuracy compared to standard Quantum Dot displays. It’s paired with a Deep Colour System that reduces light bleed between bright and dark areas, addressing one of the key pain points in traditional Mini LED panels.

In real terms, both sets claim to hit 100% BT.2020 colour gamut coverage. The display also improves contrast performance, thanks to a greater number of local dimming zones. The C7L-UK can hit up to 2,176 zones, meanwhile, the higher-end C8L-UK scales up to 4,032 zones, giving it finer control over highlights and shadows.

Brightness is also another major step up here. The C7L-UK can hit up to 3,000 nits peak HDR brightness, while the C8L-UK pushes as high as 6,000 nits. This puts it firmly in “very bright room-friendly” territory.

Both models also support major HDR formats including HDR10+, Dolby Vision IQ, and IMAX Enhanced. So the company clearly builds them with home cinema in mind.

Motion handling hasn’t been left behind either. Both TVs can do 4K at 144Hz, or up to 288Hz VRR when running at FHD with TCL’s Game Boost mode. That’s backed by TCL’s TSR AiPQ processor. This processor handles AI upscaling and motion smoothing for fast-paced content like sports and gaming.

Audio gets a boost too, with Bang & Olufsen-tuned 2.1-channel sound and Dolby Atmos support across both models. TCL is also pushing a cleaner design language, especially on the C8L-UK, which features a ZeroBorder display that trims down the visible bezel for a more edge-to-edge look.

Pricing keeps things relatively accessible for the category. The C7L-UK starts at £1099 (55-inch), while the C8L-UK begins at £1199. Both models scale up to 98-inch versions for those wanting a massive screen in their home.

With brighter panels, tighter dimming control, and higher refresh rates, TCL is clearly aiming to make its Mini LED range feel less like a compromise and more like a genuine alternative to OLED. This comes just without the usual premium price tag.
