Toshiba kicks of a summer of football with new 4K TVs and Marc Guéhi

The domestic football season is over but it’s a World Cup year, so there’s more football on the horizon, so why not bag yourself a brand new TV to watch it on rather than heading off to the pub?

Toshiba has a couple of models that’s spotlighting in the midst of the many World Cup deals that are going on, and it’s recruited England International footballer Marc Guéhi to help get the word out.

Let’s start with the TVs first. The UF26 and QF26 are, according to Toshiba, “designed to bring the full matchday atmosphere into the home”. Both support 4K HDR (including Dolby Vision), with Toshib’a TRU picture engine aiming to bring smooth motion to those sweeping attacks on the field, the QLED display providing a wider range of colours to enjoy in; while Dolby Atmos audio is onboard to bring for a more immersive feel to compatible soundtracks.

We should note that it’s unlikely the World Cup will be presented in Dolby Vision (if there is HDR support, it’ll be in HLG, which this TV supports), and that iPlayer and ITVX will not be broadcasting Dolby Atmos sound as neither of those streaming platforms support it.

But, you can keep up with the action happening across iPlayer and ITVX through the built-in Fire TV interface that comes with Alexa integration (“find me highlights of the England match Alexa); as well as Freely, the umbrella platform that makes it easier to tune into matches happening live on UK on-demand apps.

Built-in Fire TV and Freely make it easy to access live and on-demand content in one place, while Alexa integration and personalised profiles ensure a seamless, tailored viewing experience.

These two models are in 65-inch sizes and come with two HDMI inputs, Bluetooth streaming, with the UF2 model reaching 300 nits of brightness with HDR content.

Now onto the Marc Guéhi aspect of the story. Toshiba TV has partnered with him and football streatwear designer Killa Villa to unveil a limited-edition Retro Replay shirt; with a design inspired by Geoff Hurst’s 1966 hat-trick.

Given many would have watched that on this new emerging technology called a TV, it stands to reason that many people’s memories of football tournaments come not just from being at the stadium but catching the matches on the TV too.

Toshiba will be looking to cash in on creating new memories with the World Cup 2026, with the UF26 available at selected retailers now and the QF26 range launching from July 1st.
