Samsung’s One UI 8.5 rollout plans are starting to draw a clearer line between “supported” and “left behind” – and that line lands exactly on 2022’s flagship generation.
A newly surfaced roadmap, reportedly found on Samsung’s Hong Kong site, outlines the company’s One UI 8.5 update schedule across Galaxy devices. While Samsung has already included most recent flagships, it notably excludes the Galaxy S22 series, along with the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4, from the list.
Samsung has already completed rollout for newer devices such as the Galaxy S25 series, S24 lineup, Z Fold 6, Z Flip 6 and S23 series. The next wave of updates is scheduled to arrive in June, and will cover a wide range of mid-range Galaxy A models and several tablet lines, such as the Tab S9 and S10 families.
What stands out most is not what’s included, but what isn’t.
The omission of the S22 series and 2022 foldables strongly suggests that One UI 8 will be the final major OS upgrade for these devices. That aligns with Samsung’s original software policy at launch, promising four years of OS updates for that generation. However, this figure now feels noticeably shorter compared to the seven-year commitments seen on newer Galaxy flagships.
It’s a reminder of how quickly Samsung’s software strategy has shifted. More recent devices benefit from significantly longer support windows, meaning they’ll continue to receive major Android and One UI upgrades well into the future. The S22 generation, by contrast, is now transitioning into a security-only phase. Patches will continue, but new features and design changes are effectively off the table.
For users still holding onto a Galaxy S22, Z Fold 4, or Z Flip 4, the practical impact may not be immediate. The devices will remain fully functional, and security updates will continue for a period of time. However, they will no longer see the refinements, redesigns, and feature additions that come with newer versions of One UI.
In that sense, One UI 8.5 marks a quiet but definitive endpoint for Samsung’s 2022 flagships. This happens not with a dramatic cutoff, but with an incremental step away from the main development track.
