The Lenovo Tab Plus Gen 2 really wants to replace your speaker

Lenovo has unveiled the Tab Plus Gen 2, and while it packs the usual tablet upgrades, the real focus appears to be on audio.

The new model features a JBL-engineered nine-speaker system along with a built-in Bluetooth speaker mode that lets the tablet double as a standalone speaker.

Building on last year’s Tab Plus, the second-generation model’s design is centred on entertainment. It combines upgraded sound, a larger display, and a more flexible design that adapts to different viewing setups.

The headline feature is the new JBL 9-unit Pro speaker system, which Lenovo says delivers richer, more immersive audio with support for Dolby Atmos. The unique Bluetooth speaker mode on offer here allows users to stream music and podcasts directly from their phone without switching devices.

The display has also received an upgrade. The Tab Plus Gen 2 now features a 12.1-inch 2.5K LCD panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision, and HDR10 support. In High Brightness Mode, brightness reaches up to 800 nits. This should help keep content visible outdoors.

Lenovo has also reworked the design with a new 360-degree rotating kickstand. It supports multiple positions across portrait and landscape orientations, making it easier to use the tablet for everything from streaming films in bed to following recipes in the kitchen. Moreover, a built-in standby mode can even turn the device into a digital picture frame when it’s not in use.

Underneath, the tablet runs on a MediaTek Dimensity 7400 processor and launches with Android 16, with Lenovo promising two major Android upgrades and four years of security updates. Configurations range from 6GB RAM and 128GB storage to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, with the option to expand to up to 2TB via a dedicated microSD card slot.

A 10,200mAh battery powers the package, with Lenovo claiming up to 15 hours of YouTube streaming, along with 45W fast charging.

There are a few AI-powered additions, including Live Transcript with real-time translation, as well as AI-assisted reading and note-taking tools.

The Lenovo Tab Plus Gen 2 is expected to launch in select markets soon, with prices starting at $399. Based on the spec sheet alone, Lenovo seems less interested in competing with budget tablets and more focused on creating an all-in-one entertainment device that could genuinely replace a portable speaker.
