Casio has unveiled two new digital watches that blend its classic retro styling with a handful of modern smart features.
The new ABL-100WE-2A and ABL-100WE-7A bring Bluetooth connectivity, step tracking and companion app support to the brand’s familiar vintage-inspired design.
Both watches are priced at £70 and are currently listed as “available soon” at the brand’s online storefront. Shoppers can, however, register for stock notifications on Casio’s website.
The standout addition is a built-in motion sensor that automatically counts daily steps and displays totals directly on the watch’s LCD. In addition, pairing the watch with the Casio Watches smartphone app unlocks additional functionality, allowing users to adjust settings on their phone and review activity data in more detail.
Despite the new fitness features, the ABL-100WE range retains the understated aesthetic that has made Casio’s vintage digital watches so popular. The two models share the same octagonal case design and multi-row stainless steel bracelet with an adjustable clasp. The only real visual difference is the finish; the ABL-100WE-2A has a black case, while the ABL-100WE-7A opts for a more traditional silver look.
The watches are also relatively slim, measuring 8.2mm thick. This makes them slightly thinner than Casio’s recently announced F-B100W, which comes in at 8.8mm. In terms of weight, they come in at 60g, with the stainless steel bracelet accounting for the extra heft compared to Casio’s resin-bodied models.
Beyond Bluetooth and activity tracking, Casio has packed in plenty of familiar digital watch features. Buyers get dual time, a 1/100-second stopwatch, five daily alarms, a full auto calendar through to 2099, and an LED backlight with afterglow for improved visibility in the dark.
Battery life is rated at up to two years, meaning users shouldn’t need to worry about frequent charging despite the addition of Bluetooth connectivity. Furthermore, the watches are water-resistant, making them suitable for everyday use and rainy weather, though Casio doesn’t recommend them for swimming or diving.
For anyone who likes the look of Casio’s iconic retro watches but wants a few modern conveniences, the ABL-100WE series strikes a balance between classic styling and lightweight fitness tracking without moving into full smartwatch territory.
