Google’s Pixel 11 series introduces Gemini Intelligence, but one of its most distinctive features is reserved for the Pro models.
That feature would be HiLight, an array of LEDs around the rear camera flash, which provides visual alerts when the phone is face down.
Using an array of LEDs around the rear camera’s flash module, HiLight can glow in custom colours for calls from Favourite Contacts, including calls from third-party apps like WhatsApp. It also pulses to show when Gemini is listening, thinking or responding, with more features planned for the future.
But if you pick up the regular Pixel 11, the flash module is just that – a regular flash module. If you want the more advanced LED tech, you’ll have to plump for the Pro models.
That said, the core Gemini Intelligence feature set is available across the Pixel 11 range, offering more proactive help with tasks and information from your apps. It can help with things such as finding a dinner location or checking your calendar availability.
It can also clean up voice-to-text by removing filler words and refine messages based on your writing style. It can also translate sign language into text through the Pixel Camera and Gboard.
Moreover, the new Tensor G6 chip within the Pixel 11 delivers 25% faster web browsing, 15% quicker app launches and 50% more TPU compute. Google says it also processes on-device AI tasks up to 3.5 times faster while using up to 3.5 times less energy.
Furthermore, the standard Pixel 11 gets a redesigned camera bar that’s 40% thinner and a 3,000-nit Actua display. However, the Pro models step up to 3,600-nit Super Actua displays with more than twice the scratch resistance of the previous generation, so it’s not quite as capable as it could be.
All three phones get camera upgrades, with the Pixel 11 gaining a larger 48-megapixel main sensor with 56% more light sensitivity alongside the returning 13MP ultrawide. Meanwhile, the Pro models add a new 50MP main sensor, a 48-megapixel telephoto with 30% more light sensitivity and up to 120x Pro Zoom, and a matching 48MP ultrawide with autofocus. All three also feature IP68 protection.
The Pixel 11 starts with a boosted 256GB of storage, an improvement on last year’s 128GB base model, but it has got more expensive.
The Pixel 11 starts at £/$899, while the Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL cost £/$1,099 and £/$1,299 respectively – a rise of £/$100 across the board. All three are available to pre-order now and launch on 20 August.
