Samsung shows off a whopping 300Hz OLED gaming laptop display

Samsung has shown off a 16-inch OLED display with a whopping 300Hz refresh rate, giving gaming laptops a panel that could deliver exceptionally smooth motion.

The prototype was unveiled at the IMID 2026 expo in Busan, South Korea, and Samsung says it is the first OLED display to reach such a high refresh rate.

The panel has a 2.5K resolution and a 16:9 aspect ratio, although Samsung hasn’t revealed much else about its specifications. There’s no word yet on peak brightness or HDR performance, so it’s too early to say exactly how the display will compare with the OLED panels already found in high-end gaming laptops.

Still, the 300Hz refresh rate is the headline feature. A higher refresh rate allows the display to update more frequently, which can make fast-moving games look smoother. That’s particularly relevant for competitive gaming, where high frame rates can make better use of a fast panel.

Samsung also showcased two QD-OLED panels aimed at larger gaming displays. One is a 31.5-inch panel with a 4K resolution and a 360Hz variable refresh rate, while the other is a 34-inch ultrawide panel with a 21:9 aspect ratio and the same 360Hz refresh rate.

Those panels push refresh rates even higher, although the 16-inch 300Hz OLED is arguably the more interesting development for laptops. Unfortunately, Samsung hasn’t said when any of these displays will make their way into consumer products, but high-refresh-rate OLED panels are likely to find their way into premium gaming hardware sooner than some of the company’s more futuristic concepts.

Samsung’s IMID showcase included several other unusual display technologies. For example, there was a 6.9-inch Humanoid Display with eye-tracking designed for potential use in robots and an AI OLED Pendant. These concepts are considerably further removed from everyday consumer devices.

For gaming laptop buyers, however, the 300Hz OLED is the display to keep an eye on. Samsung hasn’t revealed a launch date or pricing yet, but if the panel eventually reaches production, it could give high-end gaming laptops an even smoother OLED option.
