Samsung could be giving its next Ultra phone a significant visual overhaul, with a new leak suggesting the Galaxy S27 Ultra may borrow one of the iPhone 17 Pro’s most noticeable design changes.
Renders shared by leaker Sonny Dickson appear to show the Galaxy S27 Ultra with a horizontal camera island across the top of the rear panel. Samsung has used a vertical camera arrangement on its flagship phones since the Galaxy S20 series launched in 2020, so this would mark a notable change for the company.
The leaked design features two separate camera rings alongside a longer module that appears to house the LED flash and another camera. The layout looks strikingly similar to the redesigned rear camera section introduced on the iPhone 17 Pro.
There could be a practical reason behind the change, too. The new layout may give Samsung more room inside the phone for larger camera sensors, potentially helping improve image quality. Samsung is also rumoured to be replacing the Galaxy S27 Ultra’s small 10-megapixel 3x telephoto camera, which could free up additional internal space.
The renders also suggest Samsung could be preparing the phone for native Qi2 wireless charging, with magnets potentially built into the rear of the device. That’s another area where the Galaxy range has lagged behind some rivals, although the leak doesn’t confirm exactly how Samsung plans to implement it.
It’s less clear what this means for the S Pen. The renders don’t make it possible to tell whether the stylus slot will remain, but there’s little reason to expect Samsung to abandon one of the Ultra range’s defining features based on this leak alone.
The redesign would certainly make the Galaxy S27 Ultra look different after more than five years of broadly similar rear camera layouts. The bigger question is whether Samsung fans will appreciate the new look, particularly given its apparent resemblance to the iPhone 17 Pro.
There could be another change to the range, too. Dickson claims Samsung will offer the Galaxy S27 Ultra in two different sizes, which could point to the return of a smaller Pro-style model. However, details remain limited for now, and Samsung has yet to confirm any of these changes.
