JBL is taking on Sonos with a new whole-home audio system designed to make multi-room listening simpler. The new JBL Cove range consists of three Wi-Fi speakers, each aimed at a different use case, with support for stereo pairing and whole-home audio through the JBL One app.
The range launches in the UK and Europe in October, with prices starting at £199.99 for the compact Cove M1. The portable Cove P1 costs £399.99, while the flagship Cove X1 comes in at £429.99.
JBL says all three speakers can be used individually or grouped together, while its proprietary Constant Sound Field, automatic self-tuning and AI Sound Boost technologies are designed to adjust the sound to suit the room and listening conditions.
The Cove M1 is the smallest model, with three tweeters and a woofer in a compact design. The Cove P1 adds portability, with a built-in battery rated for up to 14 hours, an IP56 rating and Dolby Atmos support from its four-tweeter setup, including an up-firing driver.
At the top of the range, the Cove X1 is built for bigger, room-filling sound. It combines four tweeters, including an up-firing unit, with two woofers and also supports Dolby Atmos.
All three models support Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, alongside AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect and Roon Ready. There’s also support for stereo pairing and JBL’s Music Follows Me feature, which lets you move playback to another Cove speaker by holding the Moment button.
JBL is also positioning Cove as being able to integrate into its wider home cinema system. The Cove speakers can connect with compatible JBL Bar Series MK2 soundbars, with the Cove M1 and P1 able to act as rear gunners.
The JBL One app handles setup, grouping and audio customisation, although JBL says the system is designed to be app-optional for everyday listening. Built-in Alexa+ voice control is also planned for later this year, although JBL notes that the feature will initially be available only in the US.
The JBL Cove M1, P1 and X1 will be available in black and white from October 2026 through JBL’s website.
