The Xiaomi 18 Fold is official – with one big catch

Xiaomi has officially unveiled the Xiaomi 18 Fold, a new foldable phone with a 7.58-inch inner display, a 6,000mAh battery and the company’s latest in-house XRING O3 chip. There’s just one problem for buyers outside China: you won’t be able to buy it in the UK, EU or US.

The Xiaomi 18 Fold is Xiaomi’s first mid-size foldable and is designed to offer a more compact alternative to larger book-style foldables. When folded, it measures 117.8 x 83.6mm and is 10.7mm thick, while unfolding the device reveals a 7.58-inch display in a body that measures just 5mm thick. It also weighs 219g, making it lighter than Xiaomi’s previous foldable smartphones.

A seriously powerful foldable

The Xiaomi 18 Fold is the first Xiaomi flagship to use the new XRING O3 processor, the company’s second chip designed entirely in-house.

Built using a 3nm process, it has a 10-core CPU and 16-core GPU, with Xiaomi claiming up to 60% higher CPU performance and 25% lower power consumption than the previous generation. The chip also supports LPDDR6 memory, with bandwidth reaching 113.8GB/s.

The displays are impressive too. Both the 5.38-inch outer screen and 7.58-inch inner panel use Xiaomi HyperRGB technology, offer a 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate and can reach up to 4,000 nits of peak brightness.

Inside, there’s a 6,000mAh silicon-carbon battery with support for 67W wired and 50W wireless charging.

Leica cameras and a reinforced design

Photography is handled by a Leica-branded triple-camera system, led by a 200MP main camera with a 1/1.56-inch HP5 sensor. It’s joined by a 50MP Leica periscope telephoto camera with an 80mm focal length and in-sensor zoom extending to 160mm.

Xiaomi has also put plenty of work into the foldable hardware. The 18 Fold uses a 7000-series aluminium frame, Xiaomi Shield Glass 3.0 and a new three-link hinge. Its inner display uses a dual-layer Ultra Thin Glass structure, while Xiaomi claims a 258% improvement in inner-display impact resistance and drop protection from up to 1.2m. There’s even a Ceramic Edition with a silicon nitride ceramic back.

But there’s no global launch

This is where things get disappointing for anyone interested in Xiaomi’s latest foldable. The Xiaomi 18 Fold is a China-only launch. Xiaomi has announced no availability for the UK, EU, US or other international markets.

In China, prices start at RMB 10,999 for the 12GB/256GB model and rise to RMB 14,999 for the 16GB/1TB version. The Ceramic Edition starts at RMB 15,999.

So while the Xiaomi 18 Fold looks like one of Xiaomi’s most ambitious foldables yet, most international buyers will have to admire it from afar.
