Apple has reportedly cleared the path for a new Apple TV, holding back the set-top box until its revamped Siri AI features were ready to ship.
That readiness follows years of turbulence for Apple Intelligence, including a sluggish 2024 rollout, a widely reported delay, and a rethink of Siri that stalled several devices, from a rumoured Home Hub tablet to other Apple Home hardware.
Bloomberg’s Power On newsletter reports that Monday’s rollout of the new Siri AI alongside iOS 27 is what finally clears those held-back products for release, naming the refreshed Apple TV specifically as due sometime this autumn.
That timeline would put Apple in step with rivals such as Amazon and Google, both of which have already layered generative AI features onto their own streaming boxes well ahead of any comparable refresh from Cupertino.
New chip and extra memory
The current Apple TV dates back to 2022 and still runs on the ageing A15 chip, but leaks point to Apple fitting either an A19 or A19 Pro processor into the next model.
That chip is no longer Apple’s newest silicon now that the A20 Pro exists, yet it still comfortably outpaces the outgoing hardware, and rumours point to as much as 12GB of RAM joining the mix for AI processing and gaming.
Buyers often overlook the Apple TV as a games console, yet the A19 family’s graphics performance, combined with the device’s constant power supply and active cooling, could make gaming a bigger part of its appeal.
Artificial intelligence remains the core pitch behind the new box, with a more capable on-device Siri AI and the ability to process HomeKit Secure Video camera footage locally rather than relying on Apple’s servers.
Apple could bundle the Apple TV reveal into a dedicated event for its wider Apple Home lineup, though the company has just as often opted to introduce hardware through a press release paired with short product videos.
Pricing already climbed to £/$199 and £/$249 earlier this year, and that structure looks set to carry over to the new hardware alongside a rumoured redesign of the Siri Remote.
The company has not confirmed an exact release date for the refreshed Apple TV, though the pattern of its recent hardware rollouts suggests the set-top box should reach buyers no later than November this year.
