Google’s new Googlebook lineup is starting to take shape, and a fresh set of Asus renders gives us an early look at one of the laptops ahead of its official reveal.
The images, obtained by The Mac Observer, show an Asus Googlebook with a familiar laptop design, but there are a couple of details that make it stand out. Most obvious is the distinctive “G” key on the keyboard, along with an RGB light bar built into the lid. Those design touches are expected to appear across the wider Googlebook range, giving the new machines a visual identity that separates them from more traditional Chromebooks.
The renders also show a large touchpad and what looks like a fairly conventional keyboard layout. However, the connectivity is perhaps more interesting. Along the sides, there appear to be at least two USB-C ports, two USB-A ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack. This gives the laptop a useful mix of newer and older connections.
There’s another surprise hiding underneath the familiar design. The Asus model appears to use an active cooling system, which suggests this particular configuration could be aimed at more demanding workloads rather than being a basic Chromebook-style machine. That could make the Googlebook range more interesting for users who want a lightweight laptop but still need more performance than a typical entry-level machine can provide.
It’s still unclear whether every Googlebook model will use active cooling, or whether Asus is simply preparing different configurations for different types of users. The cooling system could also point to different processor options across the range, although there’s currently no confirmed information on what hardware will power this particular model.
Google has yet to officially reveal the Googlebook range. So there’s still plenty we don’t know about the Asus model, including its specifications, pricing and exact availability, but we expect to find out more soon.
