Microsoft has quietly raised the prices across its Surface lineup, and the increases are hard to miss.
Several of its most popular laptops and tablets have jumped by as much as $500, pushing even mid-range models into premium territory.
The biggest hikes hit flagship devices. The 13-inch Surface Pro now starts at $1,499, up from its original $999 launch price. In addition, the 13.8-inch Surface Laptop has seen the same jump. Sure, the Surface line-up is a premium range but the hefty increase is undoubtedly a shame.
It’s not just the high-end models either. The 12-inch Surface Pro has climbed from $799 to $1,049, while the 13-inch Surface Laptop now starts at $1,149 instead of $899. Finally, the larger 15-inch Surface Laptop has also jumped to $1,599, up from $1,299. In short, devices that once sat comfortably below the $1,000 mark are now edging well past it.

Microsoft says rising memory and component costs are behind the changes, reflecting ongoing pressure in the global supply chain, particularly around RAM pricing. While that explanation tracks with broader industry trends, the new pricing is still a difficult pill to swallow. This is especially true as competitors continue to push more aggressively at lower price points.
The shift also changes how the Surface range is positioned. What used to feel like a semi-premium alternative now leans much more firmly into high-end pricing, even for base configurations. That could make devices like Apple’s lower-cost laptops, and other Windows alternatives, look more appealing by comparison. Plus, remember the recent MacBook Neo launch which manages to offer a brilliant everyday performance for under £/$600.
The updated prices are already live on the Microsoft Store. This means anyone shopping for a new Surface device will be paying significantly more than they would have just months ago.
For existing users, nothing changes. But for new buyers, Microsoft’s hardware just became a much bigger investment.
