Apple’s next wave of Mac upgrades might not land as soon as expected.
A new report suggests both the upcoming Mac Studio and MacBook Pro refreshes could be pushed back by several months. This is all because of the ongoing global memory shortage.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, at least two of Apple’s in-development Macs are now likely to arrive later than originally planned. The Mac Studio was tipped for a mid-year refresh. However, it could now slip closer to October.
That’s partly because Apple is already facing tight supply on current models. This is especially true for configurations powered by M-series chips, which are increasingly popular for local AI workloads.
That demand is colliding with a wider industry issue. The global shortage of RAM isn’t just affecting Apple, it’s putting pressure on the entire PC market. But it does complicate things for a machine like the Mac Studio, which relies heavily on high-performance memory configurations.
The delays don’t stop there. Apple’s long-rumoured touchscreen MacBook Pro could also arrive later than expected. While earlier timelines pointed to a launch somewhere between late 2026 and early 2027, Gurman now believes it’s more likely to land toward the far end of that window.
Apple hasn’t confirmed any delays, but the situation isn’t unusual. Supply chain issues have disrupted product timelines across the tech industry over the past few years. In particular, memory shortages can have a knock-on effect on premium devices.
In the meantime, Apple still has momentum elsewhere. Recent Mac launches, including more accessible models like the MacBook Neo, have helped it navigate a tricky hardware landscape.
Still, if you were planning to upgrade to a new Mac Studio or holding out for a more experimental MacBook Pro, you might need to be a bit more patient than expected.
